Glossary of abbreviations on your prescription :
- OG: Left Eye
- OD : Right Eye
- VP : Vision de Près = vision determined according to a distance set at 33 cm
- VL : Vision de Loin = vision zone optically located at infinity, i.e. more than 5 meters away
- VI: Vision Intermédiaire = the zone between distance and near vision, i.e. the length of your arm.
- SPH: Sphere = Sphere refers to the power to be added to correct myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. It is indicated just before the brackets
- Add : Addition = For a presbyopic person, the ophthalmologist may prescribe progressive lenses. On the prescription, the distance vision will be noted, with the sphere and/or cylinder, followed by Add. This value, always the same for both eyes, designates the power to be added to distance vision to obtain near vision.
- CYL: Cylinder = a parameter for treating astigmatism. Its value is indicated between brackets. As soon as the cylinder indicates a value up to +1 or -1 on your prescription, we invite you to go directly to one of our optician resellers, to be found here.
Which product should I choose according to my correction?
- The "+" sign indicates that you are hypermetropic: in this case, depending on your correction, you can opt for our V500 or Master swimming goggles.
- The "-" sign indicates myopia. In this case, we invite you to visit one of our opticians who will be happy to advise you.
- Values outside brackets express the degree of myopia or hyperopia. The higher the number, the greater the optical correction.
- The values in brackets indicate the presence of astigmatism; the degrees, noted after the brackets, give the orientation of this astigmatism, and the number its strength. If we take the example: (+0.50) 80°, the value in brackets may be preceded by a - or a +, as there are different ways of noting the correction. In this case, we invite you to visit one of our reseller opticians, who will be happy to advise you.
- Addition " (Add) " corresponds to the power that needs to be added to distance vision (the myopia or hyperopia figure) to enable clear near vision and therefore reading and writing. This indication is generally intended for presbyopes. Prescription values range from +0.75 at the onset of presbyopia, to +3.00 at the end. In this case, depending on your correction, you can opt for our Clip & Dive diving mask
Some examples of prescriptions compatible with the corrections of our swimming goggles and diving mask available for sale online:
For a hypermetropic person
-
If this applies to you, you can buy the V500 swimming goggles with a +1.50 correction for the right eye and a +2.00 correction for the left eye.
For presbyopes
-
If this is your situation, you can purchase the CLIP&DIVE diving mask model with a +2.50 correction right-eye clip and a +2.50 correction left-eye clip.
Here are a few examples of prescriptions which are not compatible with the corrections of our swimming goggles and diving mask available for sale online, and for which we invite you to visit one of our reseller opticians:
For a hypermetropic, astigmatic or presbyopic person :
If you're looking for swimming goggles and your prescription indicates distance and near vision as in the example, you don't need to take the Addition into account.
To find out which correction to choose, simply do the following calculation:
Take the cylinder data:
- OD: +0.75
- OG: +0.50
Divide the values in two:
- OD: +0.75 / 2 = +0.375
- OG: +0.50 / 2 = +0.25
Add the result to the sphere data:
- OD : +0.375 + 2.50 = 2.875
- OG : +0.25 + 2.25 = 2.50
-
With this result, you can choose the V500 or Master models with +3.00 corrections for each eye.
Understanding the symbols on my prescription :
The "-" indicates myopia
The "+" indicates that you are hypermetropic
